The Test

My mom always tells me to get great grades at school, but she never told me how outstanding it would feel. A few weeks ago, I got to have that feeling. I was sitting in my classroom waiting anxiously for my social studies test to be passed back.

We had taken the test the week before. To get prepared that week, I had worked with Mrs. Jasso, my reading teacher, alot. She helped me go back in the story to spot my answers. It helped me be more organized when it came time to take the test. During the test, I looked back tons of times for information and I double checked my answers. When I finished, I felt really good about it.

When Miss T. started talking about the terrible grades, I started getting worried. She was all like, "People! It's an open book test! I can't make it any easier!" My stomach began to squish and squirm like a pile of Play-Doh. A little part of me was hoping I was one of the good grades.

Suddenly, Miss T. was at my desk with my test in her hand. She gave it to me and my eyes were as big as a pair of baseballs. My paper showed a 100! I was so excited that I almost screamed, but then I remembered I was still at school. Miss T. said I was the only 100 in both of her classes. She was proud of me and that made me really happy.

My mom would be so proud of me! For once, I was excited to show her my graded papers. Usually when I get a 100, I get a prize. So my brain began to think about that shiny new jacket at Marshalls that I'd been wanting. Maybe now I could finally ask!

I learned that studying helps you on tests and is very good for your grades. Everyone can do alot better when they slow down and take their time.

Ebony,
I am so proud of your writing. You described everything so well that I felt like I was experiencing it with you. I am also proud that you received an 100! It is so exciting for me to see how much you have grown since you were in Pre-K with me. I love to see my former students being so successful. Keep up the great work!
