Off to War

"Goodbye. I promise to be home soon." he said to his family. Jake Goodwind was saying goodbye because he was going off to fight on the Union side in the Civil War. With that, he slowly walked toward the war of blood that was happening about 10 miles away.
The sight was horrible. Friends killing friends and brothers killing brothers. as much as he wanted to return to the warmth of his family, he knew that he had a very important task to do. Then, he began to fight. Jake's family waited and waited for him to come back. 2 months past. Then 2 more. Even after every body in the U.S. knew that General Lee surrendered, he still didn't come back. Then they gave up hope. Then, when they least expected it, there was a knock at the door. Jake's mother opened it. She smiled. There, stood Jake. He smiled back.
